Minibeast Workshop and Insect Safari

Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee, 16 December, 9:00AM-11:00AM

16 Dec

Join us for a minibeast workshop and insect safari with Michelle Gleeson (a.k.a. The Bug Lady), Director of Bugs Ed., author and presenter. This workshop is suitable for children aged 5 – 12 and their accompanying adult.

In this workshop we will explore the amazing world of insects and minibeasts that are right under our noses! We start indoors, where you can marvel at cases of preserved insects and arachnids from around the world. We’ll then introduce you to some live local insects, like stick insects and praying mantises. Then we’ll head outdoors for an Insect Safari. We’ll demonstrate some of the equipment entomologists like ourselves use to collect and monitor minibeasts, show you how to make and set your own traps and show you where and how to find creepy crawlies around your home and garden. Participants can test out the equipment themselves on a guided bug hunt and then learn how to identify the creatures we catch (before returning them safely back to where they came from).

This workshop is proudly supported by the Brisbane City Councils Cultivating Community Gardens Grant.
